about

- Elvis Presley released from the Army, Vance Borland is born in Hartford, Alabama.
- Vance contemplates taking up the piano, however the town's only piano teacher, Mrs. Cherry, is also the town RN. Associating the possibility of getting a shot in the arm with every piano lesson is impossible to overcome. Music lessons are delayed indefinitely.
- 1970 the formative years...older brother starts smoking pot and puts up anti-war posters, Beatles release 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', The Zombies -'Time of the Season', Aretha Franklin, in Alabama, records 'R-e-s-p-e-c-t'.  At age 10 Vance makes a verbal commitment to Univ. of Alabama Head Coach Paul 'Bear' Bryant to come play football if he keeps coaching. Oddly, he finds himself sitting toward the back of the classroom.
- Drum set. The rest of the family moves to the far side of the house. Syd Barrett leaves Pink Floyd. Don McLean releases epic 'American Pie'.
- The Borland Clan moves to Brandon, Florida. Vance writes first song, 'Jumpin' Jack Polka', auditions for Lawrence Welk Show, and receives his first ambiguous review, "…a songwriter with absolutely no promise" ...
- Puberty descends like a hostage on a ham sandwich.
- leaves Led Zeppelin cover band for Kiss cover band... discovers the value of musicians: guitarist - dime/dozen, bass players $0.25, vocalist who can actually remember the words to the songs... good luck!
- Tampa's 'quad' radio station 102.5 reluctantly plays the Sex Pistols' song 'God Save the Queen' and announces that the Brits "have lost their collective minds".
uh-oh...
- leaves Miami-based punk band 'The Essentials', for UF Gainesville, forms the world's fastest punk band 'The Bazookas'... takes up guitar for songwriting purposes and writes his first song that actually has a dance to go with - 'The Masturbator'.
- Paul 'Bear' Bryant retires as head coach of Alabama, the earth lies fallow...
- leaves University of Florida for the University of South Florida, and eventually gets a degree in Music Composition (1989).
- concurrently forms groups- ‘The Brutal Lovers’ and ‘Running Colors’ and plays the Tampa scene: The Quay, Miss Lucky's, Buffalo Roadhouse, Agora Ballroom, The Courtroom Lounge, Act IV, etc...
- takes job as Chief Engineer at recording studio, Florida Sound, Clearwater FL
- takes job as Chief Engineer at Media Central Studio , Brandon FL
- releases first solo album 'Women'
- gets a degree in Nursing; soon after starts giving vaccination shots to children who want to take piano lessons.
- 2003 - an auspicious beginning. Together with sponsor Anheuser-Busch, Vance forms the 'Bay Area Drummers' Liver Foundation to assist with an abundant supply of alcoholic drummers in Tampa. Unfortunately, over time, it is determined that compliance is unusually low. One internal survey indicated that over 80% of the drummers enrolled had thought that they were auditioning for a band. Sponsors pulled out after the foundation began to be referred to as the B.A.D. Livers, and doors were closed. Remaining funds were transferred to the Marlborough Cigarettes' 'Society of Bassists' who had promised to match funds for a print campaign. S.O.B. stickers were placed on over 5000 drum sets across Florida that contained the warning: Drinking beer in excess can affect tempo. Clearly, this is not what the foundation had hoped for.
- December ... James Brown dies ahead of George W. Bush. The world is a different place ... held together loosely with scotch tape. Vance tries in vain to reform ‘The Bazookas‘, but the bass player, Eric Upchuck, has moved to Paris, France, and changed his name to ‘The Pope’ making it virtually impossible to locate him via the internet. Guitarist Frank Mullen, found in Denver, arrested for the third time for selling fake Maxfield Parrish paintings, it is rumored that prison was not going well.
- releases solo album, 'Live Like We Believe'.   Awesome.
-2009  Working as producer in the studio on various projects such as with Steve Connelly, and Hannah's Whirl.  These guys put out some great music, go check them out..
... finally, a break.   Vance signs a record deal with a giant in the industry- Capital Records.   Its a one year deal with built-in provisions for extensions.  In one interview Vance was quoted regarding this deal..., "its a pretty sweet for both sides.  I get to buy 12 CD's at only $0.99, and then I just need to buy 4 more CD's at regular price in the next 12 months.  I really am excited to finally have some kind of record deal in place.  I feel like a bandit and I'm Totally STOKED!"
